The theme recognises that recent experiences faced by educators and students from around the globe have been both unique yet also feel quite familiar. On the one hand, this includes learning losses and the widening of the digital divide, to an extent caused and exposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. On the other hand, we continue to experience challenges in providing quality education, ensuring equitable access regardless of gender, belief, and socioeconomic background, as well as providing necessary resources for educators to nurture our future generations.

In addition, we are now more cognisant of the importance of lifelong learning (and the silver economy), technology (and the 4th Industrial Revolution or Metaverse), sustainability (and planetary health), as well as entrepreneurship (and producing job creators) as part of the larger education continuum. We are also more mindful of how these impact employability, quality of life, and the creation of prosperous nations.

There is no denying that education reform has been happening with the recent COVID-19 experience witnessing efforts accelerated – borne out of necessity as much as need. We see education systems globally, among others, adopt hybrid teaching and learning, abolish examinations, inculcate values-based learning, bring industry into the classrooms, and introduce Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)- in line with Goal 4 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The ASLI Education Summit 2022 aims to be the platform which brings together education stakeholders from various backgrounds, with shared experiences, in order to generate collective insights, ideas and wisdoms.
